Juno nominated, Toronto based singer songwriter Royal Wood is looking forward to playing Lethbridge for the first time, April 14 at the Geomatic Attic.
It is part of his latest tour which focusses on smaller centres and takes him back to his roots.
“I’m excited about it. The last tour I did all the bigger markets. This time I was looking for smaller markets I hadn’t played before. And smaller markets is where I started,” Wood said, adding he grew up in Lakefield, Ontario so he has a special affinity for smaller towns.
You may have seen this up and coming singer-songwriter at this year’s Juno awards where he presented an award to Sarah McLachlan.
“She was actually up against me in one of the categories. I was nominated for Songwriter of the Year, but lost to Arcade Fire and rightfully so. They had a great album this year,” he said adding he enjoyed being part of the fortieth anniversary Juno celebrations.
“It’s just a good time. It’s a week-long party of sorts,” he continued.
“I’m a great storyteller, so you can expect to hear a lot of stories. I’ll be playing some piano and guitar. I really want to make this show a personal experience,” he said.
“A lot has happened in the past year. So my music is a celebration of life. It’s a good time to be alive,” he said.
The show is now sold out, however there are plenty of tickets left for the Geomattic Attic’s next show.
Alpha Ya Ya Diallo, who was a hit of last summer’s South Country Fair, will be back in Lethbridge April 19.
