Spoon River singer/ guitarist Tavis Eachan Triance is looking forward to being back on the road, or at least back in a city.
The Vancouver roots rock band are playing the Slice, July 29 in the middle of a quick , five date tour out to Alberta and back to Vancouver.
But Triance has been shacked up “in the middle of nowhere” on the Bella Coola reserve writing new songs for the next Spoon River Cd.
“There are a few things I really need to buy, like new pants,” he laughed from his inlaws’ house on Cortes island. His wife Rachel Horst plays keyboards and sings in the band.
“It’s really nice and peaceful here. It’s a reserve and they have social issues but overall people have been really nice.”
But it has also been productive. He has completed five new songs and sent the bed tracks for another five to his band mates for a new record they hope will be ready by the fall.
“I thought that it would be difficult. But that’s how Spoon River works, I write the songs and submit them to the band,” he said adding the music and the lyrics have a darker tone.
“ We have a more of a swampy, psych country sound happening. There are a lot of harmonies happening and there are reverb echoes on the vocals. There is also steel gutiar and Wurlitzer organ and Hammond B3 and Byrdsy harmonies,” he described adding he is looking forward to playing the new songs live.
“I’m so proud of these songs it would be a shame not to play them.”
The Shaela Miller Threesome open the show.
