Slow week features a few musical highlights

This week is a relatively slow one going into the long weekend.

But it will give people a chance to take a breather from a crazy, busy summer full of fantastic shows including Whoop-Up Days, fundraisers, music festivals and countless other local shows this month.

 The Owl has two late anounced weekend shows. Calgary folk duo,  bassist John Ackerly and guitarist Brett Prokopchuk aka Iron & Co will be playing Friday.


 Herky Cutler will be playing at the Mocha Cabana as well on Friday, Sept. 2.


 Local favourites the Necessities and Andrew Scott will be playing the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Saturday, Sept. 3.


The Slice just added  two late shows. Dalliance Elixir will be playing on Saturday, Sept. 3 and on Friday, Winnipeg’s Mogley and the Woodland Creatures will be bringing some indie- rock, folk and funk to the Slice, Saturday, Sept. 2.

There are a few other highlights as well. Suite 33 is back to play Casino Lethbridge, Friday and Saturday.


 And if you like to dance, check out The Signs Part 3 — Virgo, which brings in several DJs from Modern Math including Mr. Geography from Calgary, spinning sub and house music, , DJ Barbaro spinning electro-house/ funk and nu disco music.


 Also from Calgary, Chi Flo will be spinning electro house music while Typist will be spinning  bass/ sub house/ dub and techno music. Also on the bill is progressive house DJ Plush from Lethbridge.


 On the other hand, if you want to laugh, check out Yuk Yuks comedy with  Ian Wallace and Jason Frederickson. They will be at Average Joes, Sept. 3. Tickets cost $10. The show is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.


 The big shows take place mid week at the Slice. Yukon based folk/ blues musician Gordie Tentrees will be bringing a full band to the Slice, to finish off August, Aug. 31.


 And Winnipeg folk/ pop snger Cat Jahnke will be playing the Slice to kick off September  with Ottawa born/ New York City based musician Clair Reilly-Roe. There is a $10 cover for each of those shows.
