One of the weirdest shows of the week took place at the Slice, Aug. 25.
While I missed the rapper, the Joe, I arrived in time to be blinded by swirling disco light as Doug Hoyer was in the middle of a fascinating set of pre-programmed beats and melodies.
Clad in a blindingly white suit “the dude with the ukulele, ” as one stupefied fan described him, crooned out something that may or may not have been a cross between lounge music and disco.
He had some catchy melodies, and jumped all over the stage when he wasn’t brandishing his ukulele, set it down and knelt on the stage crooning ’80s pop like a reincarnated Pet Shop Boys.
The audience of about 30 people applauded politely and then got up and danced as he jumped off the stage and into their midst.
