Lethbridge indie-rock/ folk/ pop/ jazz tinged band the Record Holder, like a lot of people young people in Lethbridge who scatter, they eventually blow back into town. It’s a good thing too, because John and Michael Granzow plus Nicole Hembroff and drummer 
Clayton Smith were able to record a long awaited follow-up to the Record Holders self-titled debut Cd which was released in 2010.
The new EP, “ To Sea,” is a consistent, and more laid back effort than the previous CD. The six songs flow seamlessly into each other with beautiful violin playing and laid back lead vocals backed by soothing acoustic guitars and beautifully understated harmony vocals.
They also recruited a handful of talented friends to contribute including Ryan Dyck on pedal steel guitar, cellist Kris Hodgson plus extra ukulele and vocals from Mary-Anne McTrowe and David Hoffos. producer and engineer Jesse Northey adds some electric guitar and even Erica Hun from New West Theatre and Hippodrome makes an appearance to add extra vocals.
“To Sea” is a beautiful soundscape of laid back guitars and stings, especially on “Winter Parade,” which has beautiful interplay between violin and cello. “ Safe Harbour is one of the highlights of the CD.
Overall the Record Holder fit in comfortably with a lot of other popular, mostly Vancouver based, indie rockers like Said the Whale and Hey Ocean.
