Everybody was out in force on Thursday, April 5, to kick off the Easter long weekend.
The Geomatic Attic had an intimate crowd of about 50 people, including a lot of newcomers for the Brock Zeman and Tim Hus and his band.
Ottawa Valley singer songwriter Brock Zeman by joking he felt useless as he asked Tim Hus to borrow one of his guitars for his energetic and joke-filled set of original country/ folk songs along
the lines of Steve Earle.
“This is a better guitar than I’ll ever own,” he joked. He told entertaining stories and cracked jokes.There were several highlights including a song “Girl With A Gun” which he sent out to “any guy sitting next to a girl he’s afraid of.”
He painted vivid and gritty word pictures throughout both his stories and songs which were often intertwined.
“Riding On The Rims,” was another highlight, which he prefaced by saying a guy in Sault Ste Marie told him that was the best song Zeman Ever wrote.
“That was the second song I ever wrote and I’ve recorded eight albums since then, so it’s been downhill form thee,” he laughed. He also joked that he write children's songs and launched into the spooky, sinister “Killer in the Corn.”
He wound down his brief set by thanking Tim Hus for adding him to the tour and for lending him the guitar before playing one last song.
Unfortunately I missed what was sure to be an entertaining set by Tim Hus, whose band had set up a stand up bass, a couple guitars and a fiddle.
