La Cité des Prairies celebrates St. Jean Baptiste Day with music and more

Lethbridge celebrates St.-Jean  Baptiste Day as part of Canadian Week on June 22 at the La Cité des Prairies located at 2104 6th Avenue South.
“St.-Jean Baptiste Day is a French-Canadian celebration that is celebrated all across Canada where we celebrate that we are proud to be Canadian as well as proud to be French,” said Kate Gilbert, Directrice générale L’AFCA régionale de Lethbridge.


 So Lethbridge’s francophone comKate Gilbert getting ready to celebrate St. Jean Baptiste Day. Photo By Richard Amerymunity invite all of Lethbridge to celebrate with them with a variety of activities including games and face painting for children and a barbecue. 

Lethbridge’s French students will be performing as well including a free performances by community harmony and chorus  “Les Clefs de Soleil,” plus local duo M. Steak mange le Galaxie featuring Antoine Laroche and Skyler Bjorn-Benoit.


 Plus renown Edmonton folkloric songwriter, ventriloquist, dancer and puppeteer Roger Dallaire and his duo will be performing to close of the day at approximately 7 p.m.


“It’s part of Canada week,” Gilbert continued emphasizing you don’t have to be a francophone to appreciate St.-Jean Baptiste Day.
Other than the barbecue, all of the entertainment is free.
“It’ll be great,” Gilbert enthused.


 It will be the second  St. Jean Baptiste  day the French Canadian Centre has celebrated.
“We had 300 people last year,” she observed.
Weather permitting , the activities happen outside the centre beginning at 4 p.m., weather permitting. Dalliere is expected to begin at 7:45 p.m.
“You don’t have to  to be a French speaker.  Everybody is welcome to come and experience French culture,” Gilbert said.
