Elliott Brood rock the banjo for two shows

E-mail Print PDF

I don’t know how Monday’s ( June 18) sold out Elliott Brood show at the Slice went, but the sold out show on Tuesday, June 19 was off the hook. They Elliott Brood lead guitarist Casey Laforet. Photo by Richard Amerywere playing two completely different shows each night but really seemed to hit their stride on Tuesday.
They played all of the crowd favourites from their previous CDs and much of their latest CD for a crowd which showed them why Elliot Brood is one of Lethbridge’s perennial favourite guests.

They started off slow, but quickly built up the intensity and had most of the audience on their feet and on the dance floor swaying and singing along.

Is it weird? I can’t name many Elliott Brood song titles, but when I hear them played live, they are all instantly my favourites, which is why all of the ones they played on Tuesday ended up being the ones I wanted to hear. They flowed together perfectly, blasted at ear bleeding levels.

“Marry Me” was one of many highlights I recognized and enjoyed. There was plenty of fantastic playing, lead Guitarist Casey Laforet was plugged in and turned up.

He danced in his chair as he was simultaneously hammering out bass on a set of bass pedals on the floor. He’d jump to the front of the stage in between solos and bass, dance for a few moments  then sit back down and dance  a little more, his hair flying all over the place.

They called it a night around midnight, ending yet another spectacular show.

Rancho Deluxe opened the show with another solid set of country  and roots music including numeorus originals and country/ folk classics.
