Chris Adeney aka psychedelic, electro folk singer Wax Mannequin is back on the road in support of a brand new CD,  “No Safe Home,” which builds on his 2009 CD “Saxon.” He plays the Slice, July 25.Wax Mannequin gets some help from Sarah Christensen during his last Lethbridge show. “It’s a low key, pretty laid back follow-up to Saxon. It’s more folk-influenced,” said Adeney, taking a few days off at home in Hamilton in between tours.

“It’s more introspective, and a lot of it is about travelling and being away from my family,” he said.
He said the live show is a lot different than the CD.

“ At times it is pretty laid back and folky, not like the live element. Live, it’s more of an upbeat party version of the folk songs I play,” he continued.

The CD includes two versions of  “Black Bells,” which he recorded on a seven inch with the Burning Hell.

“I re-recorded it for this record and changed a few things,” he said. There is also an instrumental version of the song.

The Cd, which is to be released online on July 17 and in stores on Aug. 5 includes a variety of newer and older songs.

“Response so far has been good,” he said.

“The past year has been really good for songwriting. I’m getting  better as a songwriter, so I think it’s the best one yet,” he continued.
“It’s certainly more stripped down, though I play violin and bass on it, it is more subtle.”

He couldn’t pinpoint his inspiration for this CD.
“A lot of it was inspired by being an artist in a changing political culture, though I wouldn’t say it was an overtly political album,” he continued.
On this tour he is bringing his family, including his  two-year old son Saxon, named after his grandfather.

“It keeps me from missing them,” he said.

“There are a lot of festivals on this tour, so there will be a lot of leisure time for the little guy to play,” he continued.

“And most of the venues are pretty good about it,” he said.
There are a couple festivals he is looking forward to playing this summer including the Music on the Mountain in Fort St. James, B..C, Aug. 24-26 and ArtsWells Festival in Barkerville, B.C. over the August long weekend. He will be touring Western Canada for three months, then return home before going to Europe on his own. He couldn’t choose a highlight of the summer so far.
“Ask me after the tour,” he said.

He is looking forward to playing the Slice.
“Last time I lead people into the parking lot and I did a few tunes there and there were people on the roof,”  he reminisced.
“It was pretty special.”
Wax Mannequin plays the Slice, July 25. The show is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
