E-mail Print PDF

Tech N9ne may have an evil brain/ angel heart, — the wild, crazy, sexual, darker side that he puts out there for his fans but he also has another side— the dedicated father going through a divorce while trying to put his three teenaged children through college.Tech N9ne plays Lethbidge, Sept. 12.  The Kansas City based rapper will be performing at Studio 54, Sept. 12.

But first he has to put the finishing touches on his latest EP  E.B.A.H (Evil Brain Angel Heart ) which will be released, Sept. 18. He will be performing with Madchild and Krizz Kaliko who he described as a “genius, but psychotic.”

“ It’s just my whole personna. All 6's and 7's (the title of his 2011 CD and an old English term for going crazy) That’s been me throughout my career,” he said of “ Evil Brain Angel Heart. ”

“Thanks for asking me about my brain when I’m going through a divorce,”  chuckled Tech N9ne, aka Aaron Dontez Yates, taking a break from recording a new seven song EP he will release just in time for Halloween. Last year, he released his CD “All 6s and 7s”.

He has two more EPs  he will release this year including a new one just in time for Halloween.

“My engineer is going insane. He just finished the last EP.  And I just need to get my vocals down before I leave for Canada on the 29th,” he said.

“ I’ve done two songs out of seven and I’ve got to do a photo shoot and interviews. I don’t know how I’m going to get it all done,” he said, adding he isn’t going to take a rest.

“There’s too much to do. I’ve got three kids who want to go to college and there’s places I haven’t been to. I want to share my music with the world,” he said.

His children are 18, 17 and 13.
“My little girl is 18 now. She’s not a little girl anymore,” he said.

He noted rapping has always been a way to release his dark side.
“I’m inspired by living life, and my children,” he said.

“Rap period has always been a way of  to find a way to tell people what’s happening and what I’m feeling, especially for me who tends to keep things bottled up inside. I’d probably have an ulcer otherwise,” he said.

‘“ So I thank God every day that I can do this. Now is not the time to sit back. When you keep going, beautiful things happen,” he said.

He has won awards and recorded with people like Tupac Shakur and Eminem and many others, so he couldn’t choose a career highlight.
And while he has all kinds of new music, he won’t be playing it in Lethbridge.

“I wouldn’t do that to my fans, not without a lot of rehearsing,” he said adding he likes to release new music first rather than road testing it beforehand.

“Some people don’t like the sexual stuff, some people don’t like the gang banging stuff, some people don’t like the electric guitar, but I don’t give a fuck, I give them all of it,” he said.

“I don’t like to bring people down, so I’ll be playing a lot of older stuff. I like to keep my fans happy,” he said.
 he loves coming to Canada.

“I like the women there, they are are a lot of them and they are a lot nicer,” he laughed.
Advance tickets for the show are $40 at Studio 54, Boarderline and Infamous. The show is scheduled to begoin at 9 p.m.
