“It’s been a really great tour but we’re sad it’s unravelling quickly,” said frontman Ryan Guldemond from a tour stop in Winnipeg. They have been touring for two weeks and finish the tour, Dec. 19 back home in Vancouver.

Their live show has received rave reviews across the country, so much so it has even been nominated  for a CBC 3 Bucky Award  for best live performance.

“That’s a sweet gesture,” he said. We definitely put a lot of emphasis into the live show. But there is no other purpose than to create an experience for us and our audience,” he continued.

He noted the live show is closely connected to the theme of their fourth CD “The Sticks,” which was released in September, so it includes a light show and props.

The band also includes Molly Guldemond, Jasmin Parkin, Jeremy Page and Ali Siadat.
They have enjoyed touring with Hannah Georgas.

“She’s a friend from way back, so that adds to the enjoyment of it for everybody,” he added. So far their Dec. 1 show in Toronto was a highlight.

“We had to compete with Bieber fever, though I ’t  think  the same people would come to our show,” he continued.

The new CD has a relatively darker tone to it.
“It’s the idea of the sticks. About the modern world and returning to a natural state. We live in a very fast paced, technology driven world where we only communicate through devices. It’s diminished the value of communication except through gadgets,” he explained adding that wasn’t the band’s intention when they wrote the music for the CD.

“It was organic. During the creative process there are always a lot of concepts and ideas being kicked around. These all meshed together really well,” he continued.
“We’re not a politically driven band. People can just take these sentiments with a grain of salt because we don’t have an agenda,” he continued.

He noted the band’s creative process begins with him.

“It starts with me and an acoustic guitar and a melody. When I feel ’s strong enough, I bring it to the band and they fill it out and interpret it and add different colours. It’s the band that fleshes it out,” he continued.

It has been a while since they have played Lethbridge.
“It’s a bit foggy, but I think we were  playing with Said the Whale. It’s been too long. I think it was in an old fire hall,  I remember one of those poles you slide down,” he said.
The show begins at 9 p.m., Dec. 10.  Advance tickets cost $30
