Ambience and organs mark Brenna Lowrie and Night Committee show

I caught half of an indie rock show at the Slice, Dec. 1. While I missed Lethbridge’s Clockwork Towns and Calgary’s Roving Storms, I caught a strong set by the Brenna The Brenna Lowrie Band. Photo by Richard AmeryLowrie band, featuring Lowrie on guitar and vocals, her brother Mason on guitar, Jesse Northey on bass, Clayton Smith on drums and Evan Eushenko playing extra guitar and baritone guitar.

They provided a multi-layered wall of ambient, echoing guitars providing a base for Lowries’ distinctive wavering, high pitched voice. She played most of the songs from her debut Cd which impressed Calgary’s Night Committee, who wound up the night around 2 a.m.

Night Committee Lead singer/ vocalist Andrew Wedderburn observed “That was remarkable,” as he thanked the other acts for their performances.Night Committee playing organ powered punk tinged music. Photo by Richard Amery

Night Committee were impressive, playing a unique set of organ powered heavily punk influenced rock music.
Calgary music scene veteran Lorrie Matheson laid down waves and waves of upbeat organ while Wedderburn howled and thrashed away on his Telecaster guitar as drummer Joel Nye held it all together.

They played an enjoyable and energetic set featuring Matheson jumping up and down behind his two organs.
