It’s all about roots music this week

 On the other hand  if you like Lenny Breau style jazz guitar, Keith Price will be playing fingerpicked jazz style guitar at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Feb. 8
And if you like old style country, you will want to be at Jason and Pharis Romero’s performance at the Lethbridge Folk Club Wolf’s Den, Feb.9 . It will be full of plenty of traditional sounds and banjo picking goodness. In a similar vein, Kevan Tolley returns to the Mocha Cabana Feb. 8 and Feb. 9.


On the pop side of folk music, Juno award winning songwriter Jeremy  Fisher performs at thr Geomatic Attic, Feb. 6.


 If you like your folk music infused with a touch of rock music, check out Vancouver/ Victoria based’s Good For Grapes who return to Lethbridge to play the Slice, Feb. 7. Also on the mellow folk side of the spectrum, Winnipeg born, Calgary based Mike Aron Tod and Chris Gheran return to Lethbridge to play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, in support of Tod’s brand new CD, “the California Tapes.” Gheran also has a relatively new CD, ‘Matterhorn’ which was released in 2012.


Also in the folk vein, Joel Bryant and Pete Watson perform at the Mix Lounge in Ric’s Grill, Feb. 8.  Lethbridge, rapper Furious D, who often performs with Gordon Leigh and the Naked Ear, will be performing a solo show at the Slice, Feb. 8.
For a more straight ahead rock show, local bands Lightworker, Fort Macleod pop-punk band Sophomore Jakes and Shelter the Weak play an all ages gig at the Moose Hall, Feb. 9. the music begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.

 Thunder Bay based country singer Scott Skirving plays Casino Lethbridge Friday and Saturday. ‘Pretty Eyes,” the debut single off his CD “Here I Am” is already getting played on Top 40 country radio. He has shared stages with a variety of country stars including Don Williams, Travis Tritt, Aaron PRittchett, Beverley Mahood and Wynonna Judd.

 James Oldenburg is playing jazz music at the  Mix Lounge  at Ric’s Grill, Feb. 6 as well.

The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra is also holding their big annual fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Coast Hotel. The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra will be performing as well as  local jazz trio HBO3 (James Oldenburg, Paul Holden and Brad Brouwer) Individual tickets cost $150 each including a $50 tax receipt. The event begins at 6 p.m.
