“We just  played our first date. We’ll be doing our usual Western Canadian tour to Winnipeg and back to Vancouver, but we‘re also going to be playing Minnesota. I’ve heard there‘s a burgeoning music scene there,” said Brian Sumner for just outside of Salmon Arm.

It has been a good year for the band.
His brother Bob was nominated for Western Canadian Music Awards Songwriter of the Year for their song “Going Out West ” from the Cd, which was released almost exactly a year ago.

We’re up against people like Daniel Wesley and the Sheepdogs, so it is stiff competition, but it is an honour to be be nominated. And it will help when applying for grants,” he said.

“We weren’t expecting it,” he said.
They  also did some touring out east, playing events like NorthbyNortheast , Daytrotter and participating in programs like Folkadelphia.

They plan to record a new CD in January.
“With two songwriters in the band it’s never a problem coming up with songs and by the end of a tour we have a pretty good idea of which ones will work by playing them live,” he said.

“We know the next album is going to be a little more rock and a little more modern,” he said. In the meantime, they have been releasing their favourite cover songs through their newsletter over the past year, so  they plan on releasing  a CD of them, which ch should be released in December.

“We cover a lot of old Outlaw country,” he said.

Before that they will be touring with The Deep Dark Woods in October, which he said will be coming to Lethbridge as well.
“ That will be exciting. It will be good for us because they’re good friends with us and they have a following,” he said.
There is no cover for their Oct. 1 show at the Owl Acoustic Lounge.
