Calgary blues picker Erin Ross returned to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 8 with some new toys to play with.
She was strumming a ukulele for a couple of songs as I walked in the door and switched to a hollow body Gibson for a prodigious show of catchy fingerpicking. She also showed a little bit of jazz music and switched again to an acoustic guitar for some more fingerpicked blues music.
She sang in her smooth, sultry voice throughout. A catchy song about catfish fishing was a highlight as was an instrumental which she played on electric guitar.
“ Low Down Dirty Shame” and “Empty Pocket Blues” were also outstanding. One of her originals “Another Empty Day” reminded me of Little Miss Higgins. She switched back to ukulele and ended her set with a Memphis Minnie cover.
