Kingston's Tom Savage is excited to be back on the road after a year-long hiatus.

He comes back to the Slice, Sept. 17 to play a solo show in support of his brand new, fresh off the press album “History of a Common Man.”

“ I just got the shipment about two hours ago,” Savage enthused, adding it is just in time for his  tour, though the CD won’t officially be released until October.
he said  the new CD marks a change of direction from gritty , loud alt country of previous albums like  “ The County Line.”

“ I haven’t released an acoustic album in a long time,” he said.

“The tour will be a bit different than what people have seen me do before. It is more singer/ songwriter. though there is  a full production,” he said.

“ But it is really stripped down,” he continued.

He noted the songs themselves demanded a more stripped down production.
“In 2006, that collection of songs demanded a full electric production for the “County Line.”  This CD is the flip side of the coin,” he said.

He noted he makes albums to be listened to as albums as a whole rather than as a  collection of individual songs.
He is excited to tour again, this time for 20 days — just he and his girlfriend instead of with a band.

“I converted my van. I put a bed in the back and store my gear underneath it. And we’ll be camping a little to save money,” he said.

“ I’m looking forward to the opportunity to get in a lot of different places,” he said.

“The new songs are mostly about the people on the fringes of society,” he said.
