Scott Cook continues spreading good vibes

E-mail Print PDF

Edmonton songwriter Scott Cook is all about, peace , love, happiness , good times and good vibes all of which he had to spare at the Slice, Sept.. 11 He has been spreading all of the same all over the world  since his last visit to lethbridge about a year and a half ago.Scott Cook and Melissa Walker playing the Slice, Sept. 11. Cook and his trio including  stand up bassist Melissa Walker, who will be back in a couple weeks with Two Bears North, and  banjo player, guitarist and mandolinist Bramwell Park.

Cook strummed  a couple different guitars and plucked a banjo with a peace sign embossed on it as he sang in that soothing baritone while telling stories and cracking jokes. He  started with a couple of soothing songs about nature and fishing and picked up the tempo.

He talked about playing a busy season of festival and played a couple new songs about the festival experience including a sweet new one called “While The Party's Still Going,” and then another witty number about “the dark side of festivals” aka  fire pit jams.

He also told a story about fellow songwriter and good friend Corin Raymond and his CD which he funded with Canadian Tire money. He noted Raymond recorded one of Cook's songs and noted he met Raymond at  a music festival and paid him his royalties for $300 in Canadian money and joked about filling up with gas and paying for it with a big stack of it.

He played one of Raymond’s songs and his friend, Portland, Oregon songwriter Heather Stryka.

He picked up the pace with a thinly veiled political commentary about the financial crisis “ The Lord Taketh, The Landlord Taketh Away” which was a highlight of the show from his most recent CD.
He wound things down with a soulful version of a Sam Cooke cover.
I missed Jared Klok's opening set.
