Lots of laughter, country and rock and roll this week

If anyone tells you there’s nothing to do in Lethbridge, they don’t know what they’re talking about, aren’t paying attention or living in a cave or bomb shelter. Especially this week. The Drama Nutz host a monthly improvised soap opera beginning this week. Photo bY Richard amery


First of all, it is a great week to laugh your way out of September with a couple of big comedy shows happening.
 CBC Radio's The Debaters host Steve Patterson winds down his “This is Not Debatable” stand-up comedy tour at the Yates Theatre on Sept. 26. Tickets cost $45 for the show, which begins at 7:30 p.m.
 

The other big comedy show this week is Kenny Vs. Spenny— two best friends who compete with each other on the Comedy Network every week, who will be competing with each other and making you laugh live at the Yates Memorial Centre, Sept. 24. Tickets range from VIP tickets for $14, to lower tickets for $54. The show begins at 8 p.m.
 

It is the end of the month, so the Owl Acoustic Lounge has their comedy open mic on Wednesday, Sept. 24 with Jeff Gundarson and Randy Webb. And Inferno has their regular weekly comedy open mic on Thursday, Sept. 25.
 And The Fire Under Your Ass Comedy show at Inferno on Sept. 23 features comedian Lars Callieou and Lance Ditata from the Harold and Kumar movies. The show begins at 9 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
 

The Enmax Centre features a huge country show featuring Alan Jackson, Terri Clark and Hey Romeo on Sept. 26. Tickets cost $102.50 The show begins at 7 p.m.
The ENMAX Centre also has a huge rock show this week as Godsmack and Seether and Pop Evil come to town on Sept. 25. Tickets cost $65 for the show, which begins at 7:30 p.m.
 

Wrestling fans will want to be at the Yates Centre, Sept. 28 for An Evening with WWE star Mick Foley. He will be telling jokes and stories about his career as a wrestler. Tickets cost $37.50. His show begins at 7:30 p.m.
It is also a big week for rock and roll.


 Canadian classic rockers and Juno Award winners Glass Tiger return to Lethbridge to play Average Joes,  on Sunday, Sept. 28 to play all of their hits like “Don’t Forget Me When I’m Gone,” “Someday” and “Thin Red Line.”


There are also a lot of smaller shows including some excellent punk and metal shows this week. Calgary punk bands Mass Control and Reckless Heroes will be playing with Lethbridge's Spacewolves and Gender Bender at the Moose Hall, Sept. 26. The show will begin at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $10
.

First Nations metal-heads SS Doom return to Lethbridge to rock Inferno on Sept. 26 as well with alternative rock band Fox Eyes, Stevie Heavy and Mark’D N Stone. the show begins at 9 p.m.. There is a five dollar cover.
 

The Slice brings back the rock with United Kingdom alternative rock trio Girls, Girls, Girls plus the Void, the Faps and Betterhalf on Sept. 27


For the complete contrast to those shows, the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra opens their season with the first Chamber Series concert at CASA featuring Musaeus and mezzo soprano Sandra Stringer. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.


 Somewhere in between those, there are a couple of excellent jazz folk and pop shows including HBO3's regular jazz gig at Plum, Edmonton chanteuse Ann Vriend and Rooster Davis at the Slice on Sept. 26, the Herb Hicks Jazz quartet at the Mocha Cabana on Friday and Saturday and indie folk/ pop trio Two Bears North at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Sept. 27.
 

And Lethbridge mainstays the Chevelles rock Casino Lethbridge this weekend as well.
 There is even an old time country jam at the Moose Hall, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. and much more.


On top of everything else, this week is also ArtsDays, so throughout the downtown core there will be art, music, drama, buskers and much more happening throughout the week throughout the city. Most of those events are free. So check out Arts Days Sept. 21-28.
 

And the Pangaea Cafe is on the road this week to celebrate  diversity.
 The Pangaea Cafe On Tour will feature a lot of fun activities on Sept. 23 in Coaldale at the Gem of the West Museum including lots of local giveaways and  ticket giveaways for Godsmack and Brad Paisley. Dress as your favourite musician, rocker, roadie or groupie and have your photo taken with the tour bus. It is a free event with snacks and lots of entertainment.
 The tour returns to Lethbridge, Sept. 30  at the SAAG.
