Ottawa based country/ pop singer Kira Isabella is pumped about her first headlining tour in support of her sophomore full length CD “Caffeine and Big Dreams.”
She scored a popular hit earlier this year with the first single “Quarterback.”
The Rivers Rutherford, Marti Dodson and Bobby Hamrick penned hit song inspired by rape scandals and football teams and cyber-bullying over the past couple of years, immediately resonated with Isabella.
“Country music has always been about stories. The first time I heard it, it hit me hard. I knew it would connect with my audiences,” Isabella said from the first tour date in Kingston. She noted the song was originally intended for Carrie Underwood, who was dating a football player Tony Romo and who passed on the song.
Isabella noted a couple other songs including ‘Coke Can,’ which includes the line she drew the album name from, resonated with her similarly.
“This is a coming of age album, she said adding she is growing up with her audience.
“ I started writing the first one when I was only 15. It was a learning process, learning about the whole process. It was all new,” she said adding it took about a year and a half to write and choose the songs for the new album.
“I’m still learning. But I feel a little closer to this one,” she continued.
She is excited about the tour with Autumn Hill.
“We’ve become friends,” she said.
“ We played in Kingston. Now we’re going to Kamloops and head back east from there.
We’re just doing Canada. Well I don’t want to say just, Canada is a pretty big place,” she laughed.
“ So I was really excited to have them on the tour. I’m really excited to share this new music and meet some new people,” she continued adding she is also excited to play with her band.
“We’ve been playing together for about a year now. It’s a lot of fun. We’re getting to know each a other and we’re becoming more of a band now,” she said adding they don’t play on the album.
“I recorded my vocals at my manager’s house in Cincinnati. He has a studio in his basement. And we got Nashville people to record their parts there too,” she explained.
She noted she hasn’t planned on joining Autumn Hill on stage.
“That would be very fun. We haven’t worked out anything yet, but I’m sure we’ll have something by the end of the tour,” she said.

The show begins at 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20 in advance $25 at the door.
