The Geomatic Attic has been a busy place as of late.
Winnipeg based country singer Ridley Bent played an intimate show of country/ roots music with just a touch of rap at the Geomatic Attic, Oct. 23 for approximately 50 people.
In addition to Ridley Bent’s well crafted stories, the intimate acoustic show featuring the flying fingers of guitarist Chris Dunn who started the show by warmi
ng up with a smoking Chet Atkins style fingerpicked intro. He also chipped in a few stories and jokes.
Ridley Bent drew from the music of most of his albums, beginning with the hip hop tinged country of “Nine Inch Nails” about meting a girl in a record store from his 2007 CD “Buckles and Boots.”
The rap influence came in with the gripping story of “ The Devil and Coltrane Henry from his 2005 CD “ Blam.”
He followed that up with the more country of “the Most Beautiful Woman Around” from his latest CD and which was also recorded by Corin Raymond.
He also took the opportunity to play some brand new music including the gripping story song “Bobby and Suzanne” and gave Chris Dunn a finger workout on the jazzy “ Big Black Hole.”
It was back to more traditional country with his rodeo inspired story “Buckles and Boots” after that.
“ Yukon Belle” from his last CD “Rabbit on My Wheel was a highlight as was the new song “High And Lonesome.”
