A handful of people enjoyed a whole lot of soul on a cold an stormy night, Jan. 2 courtesy of HBO3 and vocalist Mwansa Mwansa at the Slice.
I only caught the first set which included soulful, poppy ’60s and ’70s tunes including “ I Can See Clearly, “ Valerie” and a gorgeous version of ‘ People Get Ready.”
Mwansa Mwansa sang with absolutely gorgeous soul as James Oldenburg played pretty guitar solos. Bassist Paul Holden and drummer Brad Brouwer provided a tight knit rhythm section. One highlight was James Oldenburg’s jazz tinged original song “Right Time.”
They also did an excellent version of ”’90s classic Fast Car.”
They ended their first set with an excellent version of the Alabama Shakes’ “ Hold On.”
