Arnprior, Ontario based songwriter Craig Cardiff hopes to pay his good fortune forward at the University of Lethbridge when he returns for workshops and a show, Jan. 19 and 20.
“ I just feel lucky I’m able to do this for a living, making music and playing shows. I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I‘d like to save people some time.There’s probably people out there who are just as excited about music as I am and there’s probably people out there who are better players and songwriters than I am, so I want to pay it forward,” Cardiff said before a soundcheck at the University of Alberta.
Cardiff met Riley Miller, University of Lethbridge Student’s union VP of student affairs and New Media Production and Design student at an entertainment conference last year who helped him implement the workshops and show idea.
He was so impressed after visiting the University of Lethbridge’s state of the art recording studio he wanted to repeat the experience this year.
“When I went to the studio on campus last year I thought I was in a professional CBC studio,” he said.
He will be helping students with their songs.
“ We’ll be working together on their songs. The best thing about it is everybody leaves with a song and some of them are songs that have been around for years,” he continued adding he loves watching how excited people get watching their songs come together.
“ It’s exciting being part of that feeling. I remember having similar opportunities in university,” he said adding he will be doing similar workshops and show at some of the other university stops on his tour.
Cardiff will be doing workshops at 2:30 p.m. in the studio on Jan. 19 and a show at the Zoo, at 8 p.m.
He will be doing more workshops in the studio in Jan. 20.
For his show he will be playing music from his most recent album “Love is Louder (Than All This Noise) Parts 1 and 2.”
“ I’m hoping people will come out and really listen to the music,” he said.
