It is always a treat to see Victoria based songstress Carolyn Mark.
She and her brand new best friends will be playing the Slice, July 8.
“I’m pretty hard on my boys, so I need a good sized supply of new best friends. I don’t want to burn them out, so when I’m all done with them they need to get jobs,” she chuckled from Toronto, where she is finishing an Eastern Canadian tour.
“I have some Ontarians and Victorians with me. So I have to leave the Ontarians here fly back to Victoria, pick up the van and some more Victorians come and see you guys,” she enthused, checking her schedule to see which of her new best friends will be joining her in Lethbridge.
She will be joined by guitarist Joel Fernandes, Sloan keyboardist Greg MacDonald who will be playing drums with her and bassist Terri Upton, who used to play with Victoria roots trio the Gruff.
“It’s always a lot of fun to synch it up. It feels exciting and dangerous,” she chuckled.
She said she has a variety material to choose from.
“ I have a new recording that is ready to go. So I have some new songs. I could do a medley or even an all request night,” she said.
She recorded the music for the new album all over the place including the tiny town of Ymir , B.C. which is near Nelson.
“My Friends Karla and Shawn run the Tiny Lights festival. They have this great little cabin with a recording studio in it. And I just loved the cabin. I didn’t even notice the studio at first,” she said.
She said the new music is difficult to describe and she doesn’t know when the new music will be released.
In the meantime, she is excited to return to Lethbridge.
“I remember hanging out in the front of the Tongue N’ Groove when I was playing with NQ Arbuckle,” she said.
She has a lot of best friends in Lethbridge including Shaela Miller, who performed with her during her last Lethbridge visit.
The show begins at 9 p.m., There is a $10 cover
