A mixture of punk and metal with Black Earth and more

There is sure a lot of punk and metal happening these days.

Inferno had another enjoyable night of metal with a lot of variety and barely any audience other than the band members, bartender and promoter, Aug. 6.

I arrived in time to catch guitar/ drums duo Eternal Prophecy who played a blend of death metal and ’80s shred with some fretboard tapping performed over programmed synthesizer.

After that Lie Among us combine a wall of detuned sound with three seven and eight string guitars and a five string bass. They played a more traditional style of metal other than the ultra low notes and howled vocals.

A pleasant surprise was Calgary power pop band Black Earth including Calgary “evil pop” band Black Earth featuring vocalist Erika Leah - guitarist/ vocalist Anthony J backed by the Conniving Cadavers’ bassist Fergie McLean and drummer Dan Wollach.

They had an upbeat, classic rock sound mixed with modern rock, powerful vocals and guitar riffs right out of the ’70s.

Erika Leah gave a shout out  to her rhythm section for picking up the songs in three weeks for the three week tour they were winding down in Lethbridge.
