“ I love Christmas and want to share it,” said Canyon, taking a break from working on his new CD due out next year.
Canyon has a string of hits including “ I Believe In Angels,”  “ Seven Spanish Angels,” “In Your Arms Again,” “ Just Like You, “ Saddle Up,” “ Pancho and Lefty,” “Slow Dance,“ Crazy Love, “ Drinkin Thinkin” and many more.

“ So when I was talking to my management about doing a Christmas tour, they told me I could only do a short one. I have a bigger tour coming up, but when they told me a I could only do a short one, Lethbridge was on the list,” continued Canyon, who plays the First Baptist Church, Dec. 16.

“I’ve been playing Lethbridge for like 23 years. And my ranch is south of High River, so Lethbridge is right on my door step,” Canyon said.
Canyon has not only released three Christmas albums but has also acted in four different Christmas movies.

“ I managed to get my hands on a few copies so movies will be part of the merch this time,” he said adding he performs in A Christmas Miracle and Home For Christmas and even contributes a a few songs for the soundtracks.

“ I love being in movies. I’ll write some songs for the soundtracks and they’ll usually use them,” he said.

He is excited to release his first CD in two years and the ensuing 50-56 date tour. The tour has a Lethbridge stop as well— Feb. 22 at Average Joes.
He said the new CD, to be called “ I Got This,” will have a diverse sound.

“There will be George Canyon sounding songs and other songs that sound more modern like Keith Urban. It’s still me though and it will be uplifting,” he promised, adding he got a couple of producers for the CD including Jeff Johnson and Johnny Reid, who Canyon has known for many years.
“Johnny Reid has been a good friend of mine for a long time,” he said.

While the Lethbridge show will be mostly about Christmas music, he said he may sneak in a few new songs from the CD.
“There will be a lot of carols together with old favourites. And for me Christmas is all abut the visits, so  I’ll be sitting down and telling stories and singing songs.  it will be very relaxed,” he continued.

Canyon has enjoyed his experiences being part of Tom Jackson’s  “Huron Carole” tour and food banks fundraiser.
“That is a lot of fun. It’s a full out Christmas show with lights and trees and everything. I‘d love to do that again,” he said, adding this Lethbridge show will me a little more subdued.
“It will be a celebration. But it will be just the thing to get you into the season,” he  said.
The show begins at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16. Tickets are $20
