Duos highlight the Lethbridge scene this week

The Owl Acoustic Lounge has a busy Saturday. The first family jam of the afternoon is 1:30-4:30 p.m.. That night it will be the battle of the Lethbridge alternative rock duos. Tag Team Fest features night features some excellent local rock and indie rock duos presented by Norwegian Blue records. Performers include drums and bass duo betterhalf including Aaron Trozzo and bassist/ vocalist Silvana Campus and Tyler and Bre Stewart aka guitar and drum duo Sparkle Blood plus local stoner rock duo Royal Chinet including Tyson Wiebe and Mickey Hayward. There is no cover for the  show, which begins at 9 p.m.


 If you like country music Tom and Curt play Casino Lethbridge  on Friday and Saturday night. Kelly Klimmer plays a solo show with invited guests at Honker’s Pub on Friday night and will be hosting their Saturday afternoon jam. And Bruce Roome plays the Mocha Cabana on Friday night, Jan. 15.


The Lethbridge Folk Club begins 2016 by bringing Calgary bluegrass band Go Ask Earl to the Lethbridge College Cave with Cathy Hawley, Saturday, Jan. 16.
 The band (Brad Lindberg - banjo, guitar; Bruce Leinan - fiddle, mandolin; Carolin McBrien - guitar; Keith Uyeno - Stand up Bass; Jack Loree - dobro, guitar) put their own brand on bluegrass, swing and country music. Their show begins at 8 p.m. with Cathy Hawley. Tickets are $25 for Lethbridge Folk Club members, $30 for invited guests.


The other fun local gig is at the Slice on Dec. 16 when Mwansa Mwansa and her band will be playing some beautiful soul, R and B and pop music. They will be filming the show for their EPK. The show begins at 9 p.m.
The other big weekend show happens at the University of Lethbridge. It is Railjam weekend as the third annual event features snowboarding skiing followed by the always popular ’80s themed Ski Chalet Shaker in the U of L Student’s Union Zoo, Jan. 15. A pair of Maritimes based pop musicians, Mo Kenney and Ria Mae start off the show. Mo Kenney performs in the University of Student’s Union  Zoo from 9:15-10 p.m. followed by Ria Mae from 10:15-11:15 p.m. Dear Rouge play from 11:30 p.m.-12:45 a.m. and Lethbridge DJ Flamboi takes over after that. Tickets are $20. Doors open at 9 p.m.


If you are in the mood to dance, Inferno features DJ HDrizzle at 10 p.m. Millz Skillz, Stougie and Berg on Jan 16 for Stougie’s birthday celebration.
 If you are a fan of the show  So You Think You Can Dance, The Season 12 tour stops by the Enmax Centre, Jan 13 at 7:30 p.m. So You Think You Can Dance’s Top 10 finalists started crossing North America on October, performing in 70 cities as part of the So You Think You Can Dance Season 12 tour. The Season 12 tour lineup includes Top 10 finalists  Team Stage’s Gaby Diaz, Edson Juarez, Jim Nowakowski, Hailee Payne and Derek Piquette; and Team Street’s Megan “Megz” Alfonso, Eddie “Neptune” Eskridge, Virgil Gadson, Jessica “JJ” Rabone and Jana “Jaja” Vankova. Tickets range from $57-$72. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
