Easter weekend and Good Friday is especially “good” for local music, with a couple big shows thrown in for variety.

University of Lethbridge community radio station CKXU 88.3 F.M.’s annual FunDrive in full swing this week, featuring a variety of activities happening throughout the week and winding up with Freq Mod at the Slice on March 25 at the Slice. Freq Mod features a variety of local bands reinterpreting electronica music. Admission is $10 at the door.

Earlier in the week, CKXU will have fun with game shows at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, March  23.  You can participate in variety of game shows like the Price is Right, jeopardy, Family Feud and more. The event is free and runs 8-11 p.m.

Several local acts who don’t play often are playing this week. If you like country and roots music, the Shaela Miller Band is playing Casino Lethbridge, Friday and Saturday night, March 25 and 26.

If you want to dance, local funk rock trio Adequate will be funking around at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, March 25.

For blues fans, Greg Gomola plays Honker’s Pub on March 25 and will be hosting the afternoon jam, March 26 from 3-7 p.m.

There is also a special jazz show at Plum on March 25 as saxophonist Vern Dorge who last played Lethbridge for the Lethbridge Jazz Festival three years ago. His career highlights include sharing stages with Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Blood, Sweat and Tears. He will be joining James Oldenburg, Brad Brouwer and Kurt Ciesla on March 25 at 8:30 p.m.. There is limited seating, so admission is $20 at the door. Call Travis at 403-394-1200 for reservations.

There is a big indie rock show at the Owl Acoustic Lounge on March 26 with Calgary’s Windigo and 36? who placed third in the Peak Performance Competition and won a Western Canadian Music Award for their 2014 CD.

A massive pop show takes over the Enmax Centre, March 29 with Vancouver’s Marianas Trench stopping by in support of their latest CD Astoria. They will be joined by Kieran Mercer and Walk Off The Earth on Tuesday, March 29.
