Happy St. Patrick‘s day week. I plethora of events are planned to get you into the St. Patrick’s Days spirit this week.
But first, the Windy City Opry returns to the Slice on Wednesday with Calgary singer songwriter Brooke Wylie and Tin and the Toad, who are officially releasing their new sophomore CD “Out of the Wind” The show begins at 8 pm. sharp, so don’t be fashionable late. Admission is $10.
There are two big shows on March 16.
If you are in the mood for jazz, Andrea Superstein jazz trio plays the Geomatic Attic, March 16 at 8 p.m. The Geomatic Attic is doing something a little different for the show as they are setting up round tables to sit around to create a jazz club feel. Only 50 tickets will be sold. Tickets are $30 advance, $32.50 online, $35 door including appetizers and a glass of wine or beer.
The big party is at Average Joes where Vancouver Celtic punks the Real McKenzies tear things up in support of their new CD “Two Devils Will Talk” with their annual pre-St. Patrick’s Day party. Baseball punks the isotopes will be opening the show at 8:30 p.m. The Lethbridge Firefighters Pipes and Drums are also on the bill.
Things cook for St. Patricks Day with a variety of shows featuring live music happening.
Local musician Bruce Roome is at the Mocha Cabana, March 17 from 6-9 p.m.. up the street at the Owl Acoustic Lounge The Junkman‘s Quire will be playing a variety of folk, jazz and possibly some Celtic music. Calgary musician Mr. Tuesday plays the Slice for St. Patrick’s Day. And Coyote Joes will rock with the sounds of funk rock band Adequate.
Last but not least, local rock band Susie and the Homewreckers, who just opened for Honeymoon Suite, will be playing Soundgarden.
But family jams return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, at 1:30 p.m. . In the evening local band Unbroken Circle, Evan Freeman and Darren Young will be playing.
There is also an excellent classical music show as the Lethbridge Silver community band performs at the College Drive Community church with the Lethbridge Community Taiko Association. The theme of the night is Mozart and Mario, so expect reworked video game themes and a whole lot of Mozart. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.
The other excellent classical music concert is on Monday, March 20 at the Southminster United Church where the The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra presents their fourth concert of the season “ Catch Me if you Can.” The selection includes Brahms’ First Symphony, a piece 21 years in the making, known as Beethoven’s 10th; Max Steiner Selections from Gone With the Wind; John Williams Catch Me If You Can: Escapades for Saxophone & Orchestra and Johannes Brahms Symphony No 1
Another early week show is Tuesday when Halifax based roots/jazz Roma musician Ben Caplan returns to Lethbridge to play the Geomatic Attic. at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 advance, $32.50 online, $35 door.
