There are quite a few events happening this week.
Rae Spoon plays the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Tuesday with Respectfulchild and Ground Slot Orchestra for FlIPfest. Admission is by donation. The show begins at 9 p.m.
New West Theatre opens their new season with Million Dollar Quartet which tells the story of a jam session at Sun Studio from Sept. 12-29. It runs at 7:30 p.m. each night and a 1 p.m. matinee on the Saturdays.
The biggest event is the Second Annual Couleefest, happening, Sept. 15 at Lethbridge College from 1-7 p.m..
The free event includes displays from all the programs, a market family fun including bouncy castles and face painting and live music with Adequate, White Chocolate Thunder and Kavanagh and Hepher.
But the week begins with the September edition of the Windy City Opry with Boots and the Hoots, hosting for Shaela Miller who is on tour. Pig Water aka Lance Loree and Toby Malloy will be performing. As usual the Opry begins at 8 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
Just down the road in Fort Macleod, Fred Eaglesmith and Tif Ginn perform at the Empress, Thursday, Sept. 13. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $27.
It‘s going to be a busy weekend. The Lethbridge Folk Club has their first open mic of the season, Sept.14 at Casa in the ATB Community room. it runs runs from 7-9 p.m. Admission is five dollars to cover room rental.
Punk band Chief Mountain are starting to play more. This week they play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Sept. 14 with Face Cut.
Calgary power trio Bazaraba bring big riffs and vocal harmonies to the Slice, Sept. 14. They will be joined by local stoner rock band the Rainbow Patrol and Iron Tusk.
Bagpipes take centre stage with local rock band Soup of Flies, who return to the newly renovated Pop’s Pub North. They play from 8-11 p.m.
For something a little more mellow, Dueling pianos with Cal Toth returns to Average Joes, Sept. 14.
Papa King plays Coulee Brew on Sept. 14 with Darryl Düus who has returned home for a couple of shows.
They also play the Slice the next night, Sept. 15. Admission to that show is five dollars.
Theoretically Brewing has a big folk/rock rock show on Sept. 15. CKXU and Norwegian Blue Records bring in Victoria’s Wired to the Sky aka Dylon Perkons, Regina’s Tyle and local acts Zach Passey of Biloxi Parish and Son of A Baker aka Mickey Hayward. Admission is $10.
And Calgary Rockabilly band Peter and the Wolves will rock up Casino Lethbridge, Sept. 14 and 15.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge has a busy day on Saturday, Sept. 15 with the Lethbridge Girls Rock Camp family jam at 1 p.m. And they have a special show that night as Edmonton songwriter Kimberley MacGregor returns to play a songwriter in the round with Calgary’s Jenny Allen and October Poppy aka Eryn Kleyh, the lead singer of Vernon psychedelic folk band She Hangs Brightly.
For something different Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, rock band La Trez Quartoz play Beaches on Sept. 15.
Last, but not least, Winnipeg folk punk musician Greg Rekus returns to Lethbridge to host the Owl Acoustic Lounge open mic on Monday.
