Jon Martin and the Lovers play laid back songs

E-mail Print PDF

Jon Martin  is in love. So he formed a new Lethbridge supergroup including members of the Utilities, Mormon Girls, Hippodrome and several other bands,  to play nothing but tender love songs.Jon Martin and the Lovers at the Owl Acoustic lounge. photo by Richard Amery
I finally caught Jon Martin and the lovers at the Owl Acoustic lounge, Nov. 29 where a full house was enjoying the good vibes. The Lovers included Martin playing keyboards and singing backed by crack rhythm section of Bassist Paul Holden and drummer Kyle Harmon with Jason Oakes adding extra guitar and Joel Grey adding even more guitar.

Martin sang in a plaintive, heartfelt voice, playing pretty keyboards. His bandmates were rock solid  as well, keeping pace during a couple of brand new songs Martin brought out.

He kicked things up a notch for the last couple of songs by play, taking up the guitar and belting out the last couple of songs.
Starpainter, a rebranded and revamped Utilities, were up next, but I wasn’t able to catch that set.
