Steve Keenan and Paul Kype played a spontaneous set of familiar hits at t a last minute show at the Slice, Friday, Sept. 10.
They were called in to replace a cancelled revitalized Windy City Opry and as expected played an intense set, making enough noise for three or four guys instead of two guys with guitars.
They took turns singing lead vocals and trading leads on a set of classic rock and blues though Keenan snuck in one of his originals “Lucky One.”
Their set was familiar Kype sang Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man,” Neil Young’s “Rust Never Sleeps” and several Stevie Ray Vaughan songs.
“Can’t You See” was another highlight in a set full of highlights.
There wasn’t a great crowd, but a couple people had never seen the duo perform and were justifiably impressed.
They wound up their set with Kenny Wayne Sheppard’s “Blue on black.”
