Bobby Tenderloin Universe wind up Windy City Opry

E-mail Print PDF

I finally made it to Shaela Miller’s Windy City Opry revisited, Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Slice — the last of a whole whack of shows I caught on Saturday.

I missed Shaela Miller, Erin Ross and just missed Amy Nelson, but was in time to watch Alberta band the Bobby Tenderloin Universe set up.

“ We are the universe,” exclaimed Edmonton based Bobby Tenderloin, as he lead his trans -Alberta hippy country band on keyboards, looking possessed and growling out twangy vocals.

They reminded my of Luther Wright and the Wrongs, who used to work with Sarah Harmer with a touch of comedian Bo Burnham

Shirtless Red Deer musician Tyler Allen sat himself comfortably on the stage to play extra percussion.

Lethbridge was represented by Skinny Dyck adding steel guitar, pretty much drowning out everyone else and Tyler Bird added  bass. A pair of backup singers enhanced the vintage country feel of the music.

I recognized a couple of songs from their 2019  CD “LP” and a few classic country cuts.

They put on a fun show of country music and countrified covers like  “I Got You Babe.”
