I had to hit the Place for a dose of ’80s glam metal, Saturday, Jan. 28.
I arrived in time to catch the last couple songs from Motley Crüe Tribute “All Bad Things” who went all out to entertain an intimate audience of enthusiastic people, most of whom hadn’t been born during Motley Crüe’s ’80s heyday on The Sunset Strip.
The band dressed like classic Crüe, complete with spandex, makeup and wigs. The drummer hammered away on a drum kit with a double bass while the audience screamed and shouted and danced like the ’80s never left.
The part of the set I heard featured all the radio hits like power ballads “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away), which I hadn’t heard for about 20 years and “Home Sweet Home,” which I wish I never heard in the first place, though their cover was pretty close to note perfect. They were impressive. They had that ’80s sound and the singer nailed Vince Neill’s nasally, bratty metal twang.
They also turned it up for a couple of Motley’ Crüe‘s radio friendly rockers like “Kickstart My Heart.”
They were called back for an encore of “Girls, Girls , Girls.”
