A treasure trove of live music for St. Patrick’s Day week

It’s  St. Patricks’s Day week this week, which mean lots of live music and libations.

 The fun starts on Tuesday, March 15 with the Vancouver Celtic-punk veterans Real McKenzies annual Lethbridge  pre-St Patrick’s Day party at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, which will be anything but acoustic.

The Real McKenzies are supporting their latest CD  “Beer And Loathing”. Edmonton punk band the real Sickies and local punk band the Hockey Moms will be joining them. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the bands beginning at 8 p.m.. The tickets are $25 at the door. Or $25 plus fees through Eventbrite

The Geomatic Attic has an eventful week, beginning with  bringing back Smithers based Latin pop/folk musician Alex Cuba to the Geomatic on Tuesday, March 15. He is supporting his Grammy and Juno award winning album “Mendó.” Tickets are $45.

The music begins at 8 p.m.

The Geomatic Attic is also co-sponsoring the winter edition of Upside Downtown with the Allied Arts Council and Sonic Multimedia with two busy days of music  at the Southminister United Church, March 18 and 19.

 The first of the free shows, beginning on Friday night, feature doom folk band Makiisma, psychedelic blues band Global Acid Reset and alternative rock/ ’80s new wave influenced band Body Lens. That show begins at 7:30 p.m.

 

Saturday afternoon is all right for the blues as Eric Braun  Band and Paul Kype and Texas Flood play from 1- 4 p.m.

 Saturday night is all about folk music with  Wendy Colby, Steven Foord and Ryland Moranz performing from 7:30- 11 p.m.

 

 But before that, Scott Davidson and friends get you over the hump with mid-week music at the Slice on Wednesday, March 16. Davidson, Trevor Kidd, Cornelius Cole, Meghan Schritt and 4BPM will be performing beginning at 7:30 p.m.

 Davidson has a busy week as he is back at the Slice on Friday, March 18 to open for the Bridgette Yarwood Band.

 

 Don’t forget to laugh on Wednesday as So You think You can Comic returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, March 16.  Dale Ward, Cole Howg and host Faris Hytiaa will be supplying the yuks. There is a $10 cover for the show. You can also laugh on Friday and Saturday with Taiwan born, Vancouver based comedian Ed Hill at Good Times. Tickets are $22.23.

 

 That’s all before St. Patricks’ Day Festivities really kick into high gear.

 Daylan Delaney will be playing St. Patrick’s Day at Sisters Pub. The Decadent Phase return to the Owl Acoustic lounge  for St Patricks‘ Day, March 17.

 The Slice has something unique for St. Patrick’s Day. The  St. Pat Me’s Day Cabaret features drag performers from Cabaret Calgary. Bitch Sassidy,  Karla Marx,  Bea Lissima,  Ivy la Fleur and Brandi Jayne will be  performing at this very special drag and burlesque show.  Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door.

 

Who says St. Patrick’s Day only has to happen  once a year?

The Plaid Ramblers play a post St. Patricks day party, Friday, March 18 at Mojo’s Pub at 7 p.m.

 

 And classic rockers the Chevelles return to the Place stage for two post St. Patrick’s Day parties, March 18 and 19 beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 advance $15 at the door. 

Keep the party going  with Peter and the Wolves playing high energy rock and roll and rockabilly at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Friday, March 18. So dust off those dancing shoes.

A Peter and the Wolves off shoot, jazz rock band L’Omelette plays the Owl stage on Saturday featuring Peter and the Wolves saxophone player Meg and Peter and the Wolves’ Pete Cormier behind the kit.

 

If you want to brush the dust off those cowboy boots and check out local country/ rock band Coyote Junction who hold court at Casino Lethbridge on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. each night

 For more traditional country music, Boots and the Hoots return to  the Slice, Saturday March 19 with Patrick Alexandre and the Nor West Players.

 Over at Honker’s Pub, Local Tragically Hip Tribute the Hip Trip and the Trippy Hippys play a full show, Saturday, March 19 at 7 p.m. There is a $10 cover for the show.

 And that’s not even it for the week. The Owl Acoustic Lounge hosts Wigs N Waffles Drag brunch on Sunday, March 20.

 There is even an  excellent show on Monday, March 21.

 Mike Edel and Kyle Church play a special concert in the Old Firehall, Monday, March 21.

 Edel is embarking on  his “Can i Still Do This Tour” in support of his fourth full length album “En Masse” whioch was released Nov. 20. Tickets are $21.69. The show begins at 7 p.m.
