Canada Day celebration returned in force to Henderson lake Park and Galt Gardens, July 1.
While I missed the Galt Gardens afternoon program, local band Horizon played both celebrations.
I caught Horizon’s laid back set at Henderson lake Park.
Lead singer Dory Rossiter sat on a stool set centre stage, belting out a variety of hits, requests and songs I didn’t recognize.
The band (Dory Rossiter vocals, drummer Keith Duff, guitarist Bill Weiler and keyboardist Cheryl O Neil,) even though they were down their bassist, who was on his honeymoon, sounded great and warmed up for a long, crowd pleasing set.
There wasn’t”, much patter. At the beginning if the set. I thought I recognized a Robert Plant and Allison Krauss cover “Searching For my Baby” at the beginning.
They shone on country material including an apt cover of Teri Clark’s “ Northern Girl” and a request for Brandy Clark’s “ I Hate Stripes.” They went really old school for a cover of the Coasters’ “Poison Ivy.”
They went back to classic rock for CCR’s “Green River”
And had some fun with “Living La Vida Loca,” while I went for a walk around the lake.
I returned in time for Bailey Kate and her band ( Bailey Kate - Guitar/vox; guitarist Dylan Wagner , bassist Richard Charlton- drummer Mickey Hayward and keyboardist Joel Stretch Keyboards) ’ usual mellow set of alternative rock and pop .
It was just the ticket for a sweltering July afternoon.
They played a solid set of ambient, multi-layered and multi-textured original music from their album as well as a couple of brand new songs.
