LETHBRIDGE, JUNE 13th, 2016 – The ACFA régionale de Lethbridge invites you to celebrate St-Jean Baptiste Day with the Francophone community of Lethbridge. Please join us to commemorate the Francophone heritage, at Pavan Park, on Friday, June 24th, 2016.
This event is the biggest French language annual gathering in Lethbridge. St-Jean Baptiste Day is an opportunity for the Francophones of Southern Alberta to celebrate the rich culture of French- speaking Canadians. The ACFA will also take this opportunity to celebrate the end of the school year with the members of the school community.
This event will begin at 5 PM and will include activities for children (bouncy castle, face painting and temporary tattoos), our traditional BBQ and a free musical performance by the Franco- Albertan band, Le Fuzz. We promise you a great show! We are also very happy to have The cInéMAGINE Society of Lethbridge as a partner in this year’s event. They will present an open-air cinema in French.

Le Fuzz is a multilingual world beat folk band from Edmonton Alberta Canada.
Their music is a unique blend of language and rhythm, the result of
years of gigs and journeys. Le Fuzz has created a diverse and exciting
repertoire of tunes sung in various languages exploring musical
influences from around the world and home.

Frank Bessai – Violin/Vocals
Frank is Edmonton based violinist, songwriter, linguist, actor and
social activist who has been working in music, theatre, and community
development for many years. Fluent in four languages, Frank has
directed his career towards exploring world cultures and reflecting
multiculturalism. Frank manages his career as co-founder of Le Fuzz
with a couple of other jobs. He is the producer of an on-line newcomer
orientation website called Newcomer TV, nctv.ca, and Frank is a Brigade
Coordinator, leading dental and medical brigades to impoverished
communities in Latin America and Africa with Change for Children, www.changeforchildren.org.
Drawing from this work and other experiences in Frank’s colorful
career, he is able to interpret culturally diverse material with
linguistic accuracy and create original and culturally diverse music
with Le Fuzz.
Thom Golub – Upright bass
Thom has been
a bass player and a composer for more than twenty years. He received
two years of training with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra ending in
1994, and has been active in the music scene ever since. Thom draws
inspiration from the natural sounds of any environment and he thrives on
challenging musical situations. He has written and arranged music
extensively with Le Fuzz as well as for his other groups. Golub’s
compositions have been performed by international and local artists
including Harry Sparnaay and Sylvie Castillo of the Netherlands, the Het
Rode Pomp Ensemble of Belgium and The Strathcona String Quaret, The
Warszinski Tio and St Crispin’s Chamber Ensemble, all of Edmonton.
Dwayne Hrynkiw: percussions, drums
Dwayne is a first call drummer in Edmonton and has developed many
skills over the last twenty plus years. Blues and jazz music was his
first inspiration that evolved into Latin Jazz, African and Afrocuban
styles. He has played on regional and national radio and television,
theatre, awards and theater productions. He has played with a variety of
local and regional acts including Magilla Funk Conduit, John Henry, The
McDades, Les Fistons, Le Fuzz, Cam Neufeld Trio, David Thiaw’s Domba,
Bob Jahrig, Terry Morrison. Dwayne has been on the Board of directors
for the Edmonton Jazz Society for many years, and is involved musically
and production wise at Edmonton’s Yardbird Suite.
Jason Kodie – accordion/piano/vocals
Jason Kodie is an accordionist/pianist balladeer singing in French,
Spanish and English. His music weaves a tapestry of musette and waltz
with splashes of ranchero and tango. His repertoire is deep and diverse.
His live shows are wildly entertaining and often hilarious. He performs
regularly in Western Canada with a host of bands (allezouest.com, captaintractor.com, lefuzz.ca) and a pile of previous incarnations.
Chris Smith – Guitar/vocals
Chris Smith is a guitarist, songwriter and producer based in Edmonton.
He has been making albums with Le Fuzz, Andrea House, John Henry, Terry
Morrison and The Almost Leather Band. From the end of the second wave
‘80’s punk/hardcore scene in Edmonton, to touring nationally and
internationally with Jr. Gone Wild, Uische Breathe, The Painting
Daisies, Luann Kowalek, and The Piemyn. Chris’ career is one of
exploration, both musically and geographically with a discography
spanning over twenty years and including over thirty albums. Chris also
tours as a solo performer and has made multiple appearances at the
Edmonton Folk Music Festival, Mariposa, The Regina Folk Festival, The
Ottawa Folk Festival, Canadian Music Week, COCA, SXSW, Seattle’s
Bumpershoot Festival, and the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
