August starts off slowly after a busy end of July.
 The big show of the week is Bastard Poetry at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, who blend folk and blues with a touch of punk and metal music.

 They feature former U of L student  Alex Shenton on guitar and vocals, who has been living in Saskatoon for the past three years or so, where he formed Bastard Poetry. They play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 10.

Other shows of note this week include a rap night at the Owl Acoustic Lounge  where Aerosubtle and Furious D will be performing.

This is the week to catch local acts including Karen Romanchuk at the Mocha Cabana  Aug. 9-10.

James Oldenburg plays his regular gig at Ric’s Grill, Aug. 7 and The Bryant Watson Duo return to Ric’s, Aug. 9 as well.
