Two Medicine Hat songwriters visited The Owl Acoustic Lounge, Sept. 7.
Michael Coughlan was up first with a more laid back set of mostly original folk music. He sang a catchy number about Medicine Hat and another catchy song called “Fascist on Broadway.
He invited Jay Bowcott on stage to sing a song with him, then Bowcott took a seat behind the drums as Brady Enslen played extra guitar for the rest of their set of more upbeat alt-country music which had a bluesy feel. Enslen added some subtle solos as they played some original music, a couple of songs from Jay Bowcott and Coughlan’s first band Art School and a Wilco cover.
Jay Bowcott kept up the energy on his own with an acoustic guitar and a snare drum set at his feet.
He played more traditional folk by Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie’s “Jesse James.”
The good sized audience clapped along as he added a harmonica solo.
He played a lot of harmonica throughout his set.
