Lethbridge got another Sled Island preview on June 19 at the Slice, as local garage rock band the Yeah Dads took the stage with Shooting Guns giving a Sled Island preview.  I missed the opening set by Robotoroboros, but caught another excellent show from the Yeah Dads who are playing Sled Island.

They played their usual set of energetic, twangy garage rock. There was plenty of scrappy guitars and a great bass groove through a set of original music.

Saskatoon's Shooting Guns, who are also playing Sled Island, were up next with a set of big, loud, Black Sabbath style stoner rock. There were waves of shrieking feedback and wah wah and a slow, grinding groove chock full of huge riffs.

For something slightly different, they played a song they recorded for the soundtrack of a movie called  “Wolf Cop.” It was was a longer, more ambient song which borrowed a heavy guitar riff from Govt. Mule's “Going Down.”The Yeah Dads playing, June 19. Photo by Richard Amery

CKXU also announced the first part of the line up for this year's Love and Records.

Performers include Calgary bass/ drums duo High Kicks, Lethbridge Roots rockers Dave McCann and the Firehearts, Treeline and Shaela Miler,  Edmonton stoner rock band the Invasives,  The Wet Secrets, the Utilities and Calgary's Outlaws of Ravenhurst.  The rest of the lineup will be announced later.
