He was supposed to wind up their season last year, but  unfortunately the show was cancelled due to an issue with the venue. His last performance in Lethbridge was last year when he was playing lead guitarist for harp player Paul Reddick.
Sures is surely excited about playing with his trio — bassist Tyson Maiko and drummer  Bramwell Park.

“ I’ve played with each of them before but never with them together,” Sures  enthused.

“ The three of us are going to make a hoopla,” he said, returning from a successful Home Routes House Concert  tour of northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
“Tyson plays with John Wort Hannam,” he observed.

He noted the tour went well.
“ I’ve been away for most of March. It went really well,” he said adding a lot of the people who came to the shows were very impressed.
“ Not to toot my own horn but  a number of people who had been to every Home Routes show, said my show was the best they’d ever seen,” Sures said.

“ I always like coming to Lethbridge. I’lll be focusing on music from my last two albums ‘Son of Trouble’ my bluesiest album and ‘Gone To Bolivia, which I wrote when I went to South America’” he said.
He is writing new music including  several  songs to the theme of death ballads and love letters. He is also working  on a new project with  fellow Edmontonians Chloe Albert and Karla Anderson they are calling  Honey In The Jar, for which they did a brief tour last fall.

“ We all play the same style of folk songwriting,” he said.

He also wrote more songs during a residency at the Banff Centre.
“ So I’m eager to play some of the songs  I wrote there,” he continued adding he is excited to return to the Lethbridge Folk Club.

“ It will be a highly charged event. I’m playing with these guys and they’re amazing. We’re going to rock it,” he said.
Sandy Gervais opens the show, which begins at 8 p.m. at the Cave at Lethbridge College. Tickets are $30 for invited guests, $25 for members.
