Some of Canada’s best roots music comes from Peterborough.
Mayhemingways aka multi-instrumentalist Benj Rowland and drummer Josh Fewing will be stopping by the Owl Acoustic Lounge, May 11.
“ We play folk influenced music. We mess around with old folk songs and write our own songs,” said Benj Rowland, who plays bass pedals, banjo , guitar and sings lead vocals.
Mayhemingways, who have been together for three years, are stopping by Lethbridge during their annual western Canadian tour.
“We tour Western Canada once a year and then do another tour later in July when we go all the way out the St. John’s, Newfoundland. We do both those each year,” he said adding he and Fewing have been playing together for eight years and have gone up north to the Yukon.
They usually tour as a duo, though add a bassist for shows closer to home.
“ We have to to make them work as a duo,” he said.
“ Playing as a duo is definitely more free when we don’t have to answer to a bass player. I find it very gratifying musically,” he said.
He noted the live show can translate well to any room.
“We can play quiet listening rooms or we can play rowdy bars. We just play it by ear,” he said.
They released their debut Ep in 2013.
“It’s not new anymore. We’re working on a new one. We}’ll record the record in June when we get back from tour. We’ll see what happens,” he said.
He said the closest the band has played Lethbridge has been Twin Butte which they played on their last tour.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what this Owl Lounge is all about,” he said.
The show begins at 9 p.m.
