Lethbridge duos Sparkle Blood and Royal Chinet know how to rock

I only caught two of the three duos playing Tag Team Fest at a packed Owl Acoustic Lounge on a blustery, snowy, miserable Jan. 16.

The place was packed to support Lethbridge Sparkle Blood playing, Jan. 16. Photo by Richard Ameryrock duo Sparkle Blood who recently relocated to Lethbridge from Calgary. The duo, consisting of guitarist/ vocalist Tyler Stewart and drummer Bre Stewart were releasing their new cassette “ The Denim Tape” to the masses.

Their set was addictively crunchy, pop rock reminiscent of Weezer. Tyler Stewart strummed his Strat and sang as Bre Stewart stripped down to a unicorn adorned  onesie for their last song — a cover of Mott the Hoople’s “ All The Young Dudes.”

I missed betterhalf, who opened the show, but caught a little bit of fellow Lethbridge duo Royal Chinet’s set  which featured Tyson Wiebe on guitar and vocals and Mickey Hayward on drums.
Their set was louder, more alternative rock sounding and abrasive than their other bands Planet Telex and Mormon Girls.

Several of their songs were instrumentals. They played a powerful set, so much so that Mickey Hayward broke his drum within the first few songs.
