Toronto epic metal band Vesperia have been riding high on the waves of success since winning the International Wacken Metal Battle competition in Germany last August.
They return to Lethbridge, April 18 to play Inferno with Finnish melodic death metal band Kalmah, Abbotsford’s Without Mercy and Lethbridge’s the Avulsion and Maelion. Doors open at 5 and the bands begin at 6:15 sharp.
Frontman/ bassist Morgan Rider credited winning the Wacken Battle metal competition last August in Germany for the band’s tour with Kalmah.
“We won the Wacken Metal Battle in Canada then we went to Germany and competed against bands from 32 other countries,” Rider said.
“ It was an unreal experience. We were playing in front of a lot of people and all outside. There’s nothing else like it. And we’re not allowed to enter it again,” he added.
“It’s like whole other world and we got a lot of experience from it. And it lead to this tour with Kalmah,” he continued.
“It’s definitely taken us to the next level.
“The new CD will still be orchestral. We do a lot of programming in advance. The last one came out in 2013 and we were experimenting with Celtic folk sounds and uilleann pipes and bells. But we’re moving past that now, though there is still some Celtic influence.
“The new music is very musical and very melodic. It will be an expansion of the EP. We’re experimenting with big horn sections” he said.
“It won’t be as epic, but it will still have a very big sound,” he said.
He is looking forward to bringing the show and band mates guitarists Casey Elliott and Frankie Caracci and drummer Dylan Gowan.
“I’m looking forward to seeing new faces,” Rider said.
“There will be lots of metal. There will be lots of lights and fog and our usual eclectic set,” he said.
The music begins at 6:15 sharp at Inferno Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
