It is a slightly slower week, however there are a couple of big events happening downtown on the weekend.

 On Friday afternoon in Fort Whoop Up, Indigenous Bridges features a performance of traditional music and dance by the Ainu People of Japan and the Blackfoot Nation at 1 p.m.
The Ainu performers are part of Ainu Art Project which include 23 members which expresses traditional Ainu culture via dance, music and handcrafts.

The Blackfoot drum group is the Yellow Gun Singers drum singers features dance performances by Jeremy Oka and Torry Eagle Speaker.

Fort Whoop Up admission fees apply, but the event is free to Fort Whoop-Up performers.

Applefest  returns to  Galt Gardens on Saturday, Aug, 12 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

 There will be performances by local funk rock trio Adequate, Jolene Draper, the Steve Keenan Blues Band, Tyra Whitson and local blues band Coda .
There will also be learning tents, a Kidzone with activities for the kids, vendors, a juicing and plenty of food and good times.

Before that, Windy City Opry opens August with Edmonton musician Andrew Scott plus Medicine Hat musician Derek Hintz and the Dustbowl Dynamos  who are Brady Enslen, Matt Coldwell and Tim Herman.

 

The show begins at 8 p.m. sharp. as usual there is a $10 cover for the show.

The weekend is all about acoustic music, the exception being Suite 33 rocking Casino Lethbridge, Aug. 11 and 12.

Local alternative rock trio Supervoid unplug at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 11 with the Crooked Creek Warblers.
 The next day, Hamilton singer/songwriter Pat Maloney returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge.
 Admission is by donation.

 Over at the Slice, local band Shagadelic perform on Aug. 11. They host Edmonton rock band Stray Arcs on Aug. 12.

 The Mocha Cabana has  a great show on Aug, 12 for all of you blues, jazz and piano aficionados as The United Kingdom’s supreme boogie woogie piano player Ben Waters and his band band plays at 9 p.m. There is a $15 cover charge for the show.
Waters has played with the Rolling Stones, Ray Davies, Jools Holland, Jerry Lee Lewis, Screaming Lord Sutch and David Gilmour to name just a few.

 Also this week, Shakespeare In the park ends their summer season production of a Comedy of errors in Galt Gardens.

 The last two shows are in Galt Gardens on Aug. 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. each night.
