I  didn’t want to miss Calgary based psychedelic rock trio Flowshine at the Slice, Nov. 17 so I cut another show short in time to catch the end of local indie rock band Birch Barks who supplied lots of ambient guitar.

Calgary trio Flowshine played an upbeat groovy set of  psychedelic rock. This time they had  trippy white Christmas lights and a blue light shining on the colourfully painted bass drum of the drum kit to enhance their usual psychedelic soulful sound. With the big bass and solid , experimental guitar, they sounded like a more funky Phish.

 They got an intimate audience going with the groovy “You Get Me Going,” which brought the funk out, courtesy of their usual hot bass playing, which powered the sound.

In addition to their own songs, they put their own stamp on covers like the Zutons/ Amy Winehouse’s “ Valerie”  which they made into a more, soulful R and B style number.
 Some of the more straight ahead rock numbers were reminiscent of Hollerado.

 To emphasize their fun side, frontman/ guitarist Jeremiah Erhardt released a bag full of balloons for the audience and the band to play with.
