“It‘s been a few years,” Savage said, who  draws comparisons to Bruce Springsteen. He is embarking on a tour in support of his ninth album “Great Beyond.”

“ I usually only tour out there when I have a new record out,” he said, adding the new record is a stripped down affair that reflects his live solo show.
“I’ve put a lot of work into the show, I’m playing guitar more percussively and creating a different style of playing,” he said.
“ I’ve also got a stomp box to fill out the sound,” he continued.

He plays with a band, The Dead Root Arrival around  Ontario including drummer Bonz Bowering and sometimes  his 14-year-old daughter playing bass.

“She’ll fill in on bass sometimes. She’s been playing bass for about a year.  She‘s been playing with me, busking  this summer. It’s been great bonding together. But I didn’t want to put them on the record,” he said, adding he wanted to focus on the solo aspect of his music.
But they won’t be coming on this tour.
“It’ll just be me. It’s really exciting to come back.  I’ve been doing this for nearly 10 years, mostly on my own,”  he said.
He has spent a busy summer touring, getting as far west as the Trout Forest Music festival in Ear Falls in northwestern  Ontario.
Tom Savage plays the Slice, Sept. 18 at 9 p.m.
