It was all about the blues at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, with an all star slate of performers, Friday, Sept. 17.

I arrived as Nova Scotia based  bluesman Morgan Davis was winding up a solo set, before Papa King, harp player Harpdog Brown, keyboardist Bruce MacKay and bassist Doug Freeman joined him for the rest of the show.

The show focussed on jams on classic blues tracks like “Baby Please Don’t Go,” which allowed the all star cast of players to shine and solo.

Morgan Davis added tasteful  guitar solos while King growled out lead vocals and stomped out the rhythm.

Harpdog Brown sang lead vocals when needed, but mostly added tasteful harp solos.

MacKay blasted out a great piano solo on blues classic “Spoonful.”

Everybody got to solo on “Nine Below Zero.”

A couple  of the highlights  of the  second set were “My Babe” and my favourite Papa King original“ Busy Boy Blues, which I was just in time for having returned from the Red Hot Hayseeds at the Slice.
