There is music every day of the week this week. The theme of the week is roots and country with a little bit of punk rock tossed into the mix.

 

The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra is back at Southminster United Church, Monday, Nov. 22 with Series 2 Hungarian Rhapsody featuring pianist Bradley Parker. They will be performing Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2;Liszt - Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat and Bartók - Concerto for Orchestra. Tickets are $25-$75. The concert begins at Southminster United Church at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday is unusually busy. As usual, Good Times has their weekly comedy open mic. But there are also some outstanding roots shows happening.

 

Saskatchewan folk/country troubadour Zachary Lucky returns to the Slice, Tuesday, Nov. 23.

 

 Surrey folk duo Ocie Elliott’s show at The Geomatic Attic’s main venue is sold out, Nov. 23.

 The Geomatic Attic has a busy week as Saskatchewan country duo Kacy and Clayton play the downtown venue on Friday, Nov 26 in support of their new record “Carrying On.” The show is at 8 p.m., with doors opening  at 8 p.m. Tickets are $32.

 

 The Geomatic Attic also features Manitoba country roots musician Del Barber and his  band playing the main venue, Nov. 28. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $32.

 

 Also in the roots country milieu, the Mariel Buckley band returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Saturday, Nov. 27. There is  a $10 cover charge.

 Wednesday is jazz night at the Watertower Grill and Thursday is the Slice’s  weekly open mic.

 

Whiskey Gap Country host Honkers Pubs’ Friday night open mic.

 Global Drums return to University Theatre on Friday Nov. 26 to take the audience across the world in percussion. University Theatre is busy this weekend as  The U of L singers will be performing there on Saturday, Nov. 27.  The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for students, $15 for seniors and $20 for alumni.

 

 Didi’s Playhaus gets into the Christmas spirit a month early, Nov. 26 and 27 with a staged reading of “A  Very Didi Christmas Carol” penned by Kathy Zaborsky and Jay Whitehead. The show is at 7:30 p.m.

 As for the rock, there are several options this weekend.

Peter Cormier has been playing Lethbridge a lot over the past few weeks, He rocked the Owl Acoustic Lounge a couple of weeks ago with Peter and the Wolves and was behind the kit with l’omelet this Saturday with his saxophone player Meg Thompson and they both return with Peter and the Wolves to to Casino Lethbridge next weekend, Nov 26 and 27.

 

The Slice  will have it’s roof rocked off with a couple of high powered rock and roll shows on the weekend.

 It’s local tribute night at the Slice, Nov. 26 with local Misfits tribute 138 and Volbeat tribute Rebel Angels. Local metal band Tainted Stain open the show. There is a $10 cover.

 

 Tyler Brownfield’s new psychobilly band Hell Diablo  has a CD release part at the Slice, Nov. 27 with Queen of the Worms and Public Execution. 

 Next week, local synth-pop artist and scene supporter Tyler Vanden Dool says farewell at the Slice on Tuesday with his last local show of the year.

 

 Also this weekend, the Sixth Annual Winter Lights Festival opens at Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens.
