The Geomatic Attic is the place to be this month.
While The Fred Eaglesmith Show was postponed last week, there is a lot going on.
This week the Geomatic Attic presents two big country/ folk shows.
Ottawa songwriter Jeremy Fisher performs Oct. 22. he is a storyteller and folk singer who draws deeply from the pop well for his new CD “The Lemon Squeeze.” Joe Nolan is also on the bill. Tickets cost $30.
The next day, on Oct. 23, the Geomatic Attic bring back Winnipeg based country singer Ridley Bent who has also just released a new CD. Ridley Bent and guitarist Chris Dunn will be performing as an acoustic duo at 8 p.m. sharp. Tickets cost $32.50.
The Lethbridge Folk Club opens their Fall season this week with the Wardens and Richard Burke at the Lethbridge College Cave, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. sharp. Tickets cost $25 for non members including a membership or $20 at the door for members. They also hold monthly open mics on the second and fourth Fridays of every month and bluegrass jams on the first and third Fridays at MJs Cycle (1502 -2nd Avenue South). They have been redefined as a private members club, so you have to have a membership to attend and have a drink with them during their open mics and bluegrass jams. There is an open mic at the Folk Club this Friday at 8 p.m. There is a $2 admission fee to attend.
There is a lot of rock and metal this week as well.
The Slice goes metal with San Francisco doom metal band Castle who are touring in support of their new CD “ Under Siege.”
Local progressive rock trio Lustre Creame and local metal band Obsidian Soul are also on the bill.
Also on Oct. 23, there is a big metal show at the Westminster Hall featuring Homewrecker from Ohio, Pharaoh from Baltimore, Calgary's Mortuary Rate and Lethbridge bands Thought Crime and Dysfunction. Admission is five dollars for this all ages gig, which begins at 7 p.m.
The Slice a has a variety of music this week with local pop singer Mike Maguire, Oct. 24. and Calgary based country / folk singer Scott Macleod on Oct. 25.
And , just announced, Calgary based folk / pop/soul singer Michael Bernard Fitzgerald plays the Slice, Oct. 27. He is embarking on the Way Too Big Way Too Loud Tour in November.
If you like Guns N Roses, tribute band Night Train rocks Average Joes on Oct. 24 Average Joes has a lot going on this week as well as Lethbridge doctor powered rock band DNR hosts the sixth annual Scotchtoberfest on Oct. 25 with the Lethbridge Firefighters Pipes and Drums. Tickets cost $20.
It is a good week for local performers. Hippodrome will get you dancing on the weekend at Casino Lethbridge, the Bryant Watson duo play Oct. 24 at Ric’s Grill.
Herb Hicks Jazz Quartet return to the Mocha Cabana to play some jazz music, Oct. 24 and 25. HBO3 have their regular jazz gig at Plum on Thursday, Oct. 23.
Lethbridge pop rock band Stars From Streetlights rock the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Oct. 25. The Owl Acoustic Lounge also brings back bluesman Morgan Davis this week, Oct. 24 as well.
There are also some non peak day performances. Lethbridge country singer Trevor Panczak is holding the official video release party for his song “For A Girl” on Tuesday, Oct. 28 with special guest Tanya Ryan. The show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $15. And if you like hip hop music, The Cannibal Patch kids perform at Inferno, Oct. 26.
The other fun event is the second annual Lebowski bash at the Hollywood Bowl, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. So check out an evening of free bowling, cheap White Russians and live music from local rock band the Delawares . Tickets cost $15 in advance.
and, if you want to laugh and eat, Playgoers of Lethbridge presents their October dinner theatre of Dixie Swim Club Oct. 22-28 at the Country Kitchen, beneath the Keg on Mayor Magrath Drive..
Tickets cost $45 at CASA. Cocktails ar eat 6 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 p.m. with the play to follow.
