Rockabilly is back in Calgary. So grease back your hair, put on the battered old leather jacket and get ready to swing.

Hungry young Calgary rockabilly quartet Peter and the Wolves’ bassist Theo Waite can’t wait to bring band mates, guitarist/ vocalist Peter Cormier, drummer Ms. ChePeter and the Wolves come to Lethbridge this week. Photo by Clayton Hansenrry Kisses and keyboardist Paul Rodermond to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, April 24  for the first time and show off their brand spanking new album “ Here Comes Peter and the Wolves” to Lethbridge.

“ We have even newer stuff we’re excited to play,” Waite said adding the CD  was just released on  April 9.
“The album has eight brand new tracks. Peter has a very classic feel. There’s lots of swing” he said adding they recorded the CD last October and November.

They were immediately drawn to rockabilly after discovering the Stray Cats.
“We were impressed with how accessible rockabilly is. It’s really easy for people to dance to. It’s exciting and it’s really fun. It really gets you going,” he enthused.

He noted the band was influenced a lot by other Calgary acts getting into rockabilly music like Eve Hell of Eve Hell and the Razors.

“I learn a lot just watching her play, he said adding he  started out playing electric bass, but embraced the upright bass when he discovered rockabilly. He noted fans have embraced Peter and the Wolves.

“Response so far has been really good. I’m surprised. We have people who we don’t know coming up to us and telling us how much they like the band. So it’s good to hear that feedback. It’s getting out there,” he continued.

They mostly play around Edmonton and Calgary but are planning a slightly longer tour in May and June to include more Alberta and B.C. dates which they will have to work around day jobs.
Waite works in a sandwich shop, Ms.Cherry Kisses is a hairdresser and Cormier works in a warehouse.

They are excited to play Lethbridge.
“ It should be fun. We just love playing,” he said.

“ If people want to have a good time dancing without going to a club, then our show’s the place to be, he said.
There is no cover for the show which begins at 9 p.m., April 24.
